The Best Time to Cold Call, According to Actual Data

THE PLAYBOOK · A 5-MINUTE READ

THE STATE OF SALES LENS

We Have A Meeting's own 2025 cold call records, plus Cognism's 200,000-call analysis, HubSpot's survey of daily cold callers, and Salesfinity's 3.5 million dial dataset, read side by side, including where they contradict each other. Four datasets broadly agree, and the answer is more useful than "just dial more".

01 · Late morning is the safest bet

Cognism's dataset points to 10 to 11am as the strongest window, with 2 to 3pm a solid runner-up. HubSpot's survey of regular cold callers lands on 10am to noon. Performance drops before 9am, after 4pm, and dies entirely over lunch. Some datasets argue for 4 to 5pm instead, and at least one vendor openly admits their own data contradicts the study they cite. Test both windows on your persona.

Our own records point the same way, measured differently. Plot the average length of a WHAM cold call across the day and 10 to 11am is where conversations run longest, which is what engagement actually looks like. Prospects are willing to stay on the line. 2 to 3pm is the runner-up, so there is life after lunch. Call length nosedives between 7 and 9am, at midday, and again at 5pm, all the hours a prospect is commuting, eating, or heading for the car.

That shape repeats across every region we call into, which is the part worth acting on. Check the timezone of the country you are dialling and protect 10 to 11am and 2 to 3pm where the prospect is sitting, not where you are.

THE NUMBER 10 to 11am, the one window every dataset here agrees on, ours included.

THE MOVE

Protect that hour. No meetings, no admin, phones only.

02 · Midweek carries the diary

Salesfinity's analysis of 3.5 million dials found Tuesday and Wednesday account for 44% of all demos booked from cold calls. Monday is the graveyard. Friday afternoon is a rumour. Plan your highest-value call blocks accordingly and use Monday for list prep.

Our own diary says the same thing and adds a wrinkle. Tuesday books more meetings than any other day at WHAM, and carries the second-highest number of conversations across the week. Friday is the strange one. It is one of the worst days for getting something into the diary and one of the best for getting a prospect to actually talk. Less competition from other cold callers, fewer internal meetings holding people hostage, so the phone gets answered. They just will not commit to anything on a Friday afternoon.

So Friday is not a dead day, it is a different day. Use it for discovery, qualifying, and warming the accounts you intend to close on Tuesday.

THE NUMBER two days produce 44% of booked demos, and Tuesday tops our own bookings table too.

DO THIS THIS WEEK

Stack your best data and freshest reps into Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Keep Friday for conversations, not commitments.

03 · Persistence outperforms any clock

The single biggest timing lever is the attempt count, ahead of the hour. Most prospects need 5-plus tries before connecting, per-prospect connect rates hit 24.5% across multiple attempts versus 9.9% on a single dial, and 95% of eventually converted leads are reached by the sixth attempt. Meanwhile only 10% of salespeople make more than three.

THE NUMBER the sixth attempt, where 95% of converted leads get reached.

STEAL THIS

Build the cadence to survive silence. Timing optimises. Persistence converts.

The verdict

A VP of Engineering and a Director of Facilities have completely different phone habits. Anyone selling one perfect calling hour for every persona is oversimplifying, us included. Tuesday at 10am is what our data says about our regions and our personas. Yours will differ. Run your own numbers for a month. Your dialler already knows the answer.

The best time to call is the time you actually call. The second best is 10am Tuesday.

THE ONE THING

Protect 10 to 11am for dials, and build every cadence to reach attempt six.
